Remember me telling you of our new rooster? It’s one brought over by our daughter that came from our friend’s barn. Every once in awhile my daughter releases some of the “ugliest” roosters to the wild. This time she brought four of them to our place.
The first couple of days that the roosters were here, three of them were taken away by a fox. Only one survived.
The friends who have the horses and barn where the rooster came from were here for our daughter’s graduation party. John remarked when he was leaving that our rooster is so ugly, even the fox won’t eat it!
Our son Joel got a kick out of this rooster with his flopped over rooster’s comb. Joel said he looks like he’s got a “comb-over” going. :)
The rooster is actually fun to have around other than his early morning crowing. He’ll come running if I’m outside in the garden or watering the plants. He seems to enjoy us as well.
This rooster has found a good way to survive the nights. We discovered he likes to roost overnight up high in the catalpa tree. My husband spotted him there a few days ago.
Here’s a close-up shot, he’s not easy to find among the branches.
I’m glad he’s found a way to avoid the foxes and coyotes of the area.
I’ll leave you with a picture of the black-eyed Susan that’s growing in a planter on the patio. I almost pulled this a few months ago thinking it was a weed but I liked the fuzzy looking plant so I let it grow. It turned out to be the black-eyed Susan that reseeded from last year’s flower.
