Clearing Somewhat

There’s less smoke in the northern California skies this morning.  Last night I even saw stars in the sky, I hadn’t been able to see the night skies through the smoke for weeks.

The fires are not out, not by a long shot, we’ve just been blessed with what they call a delta breeze and it’s made the smoke less visible and cleared the air some.  The fires are still burning from Santa Cruz up the coast to the northern most parts of California near the Oregon border and down through the east side of California along the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.  It’s unreal to see the news stories with all the fires spotted on the map.

There was the threat of more dry lightning strikes overnight which could cause even more fires to break out.  So far I haven’t heard of any new fires though.

On another note, we’ve had two of my husband’s aunts visiting all week.  One is from Nebraska, the other is from Colorado.  It’s been fun to see them again.  The aunts are my father-in-law’s sisters.  He is from a family of seven brothers and three sisters.  Those that are still alive are in their early to late eighties.  My father-in-law, the oldest, is 90 now!

On Wednesday my husband drove a bunch of them up to Reno.  One of his uncles also drove taking four in his car and my husband carried another four in his parents’ car.  My husband said it was like chaperoning a third grade field trip.  He had to constantly check to see where they were and not let anyone wander too far away.  They had a great time though.

On Friday evening my husband drove to his parents’ house and brought them all back up here to our house for dinner.  I decided to stay away from steaks or hamburgers as some don’t eat red meat now.  I decided to fix chicken tacos.  I think they actually all had fun assembling their own tacos with the meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cheese and olives I set out.

In between all the relatives, my daughter came over on Thursday and took me to get a pedicure.  She said it was her belated Mother’s Day present for me.  I’ve never had a pedicure in my life!  It was fun just being with my daughter and doing this together.

Look, I can even show you the results!

My toenails are now painted a pretty red. :)
