Holy smokes! It’s the middle of May and we’ve had those triple digit days already. Lucky for me, it was also the weekend of my daughter’s soccer tournament (she plays on a women’s soccer team) so I’ve had a lovely weekend out in the sun and heat.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the hot temperatures of California’s summers but I also like to not sit out under the sun all day long.
Gail’s first game was 8:30 Saturday morning. It was still cool at that time and at the field she was on there were lots of large trees that provided shade from the sun. This soccer complex is huge though, I think there are at least 12 soccer fields there. Some have the large trees, on others the trees are still small.
Gail had three soccer games on Saturday, I only stayed for the first two. They of course did well enough to make it to the next round of games scheduled for Sunday. Her first game was at 7:30 Sunday morning, that’s pretty darned early but at least they get started early so it’s over at a decent time. I like this tournament and how it’s run, the games are always on time, there’s no waiting for another game’s finish or time in between games.
I didn’t get many pictures of Gail on the field, she’s always on the oppostite side of the field from where I’m sitting! This was the best shot where you could actually see her face.
There was six hours between her first and second game so Gail and I drove over to our niece’s place where her little boy was playing in a T-Ball game. It’s where the little guys learn how to play baseball before they hit the little league games. It was so cute watching them. I’m not sure if it really teaches them how to play though. They go through the entire line up every inning, no one is put out. The dad’s do the pitching and catching so the kid who’s playing that position is just there to learn where to stand. They all had a good time though and we enjoyed watching.
That’s my niece’s son Aidan at bat and then as catcher. I think he’s more interested in something on his glove and he’s not watching when a ball is pitched.
After the T-Ball game we went to my niece’s to see the family and have a barbecue. It took so long to get the food that we had to eat quickly then get back to Gail’s soccer tournament. At least the kid’s game gave us a break from the heat.
By the time I was home Sunday afternoon I was pooped, mostly from sitting out in the sun for hours on end. Even in the heat, it was a fun weekend.
