Spring is Springing Forth

Yesterday was the first day of spring and my flowers and plants are coming to life on cue.

I always walk around the driveway side of the garden to see if I’ve missed anything and sure enough, one of the daffodils was blooming. :)

daffodils08a.jpg  I had to bend down to get the photo in between the rails of the split rail fence but it was worth it to find two daffodil flowers!

My tulips are ready to bloom, the buds are on the stems, they just haven’t opened yet.  I can’t remember what color they were supposed to be, I should have saved the packages but soon enough the tulips will open and I’ll find out.

I have a second camelia plant I planted in the retaining wall that runs along on the side of the house and it’s loaded with camelia flowers!

pinkcamelia.jpg  This camelia’s flowers are all pink.

When I was in the nursery at Lowe’s the other day I spotted this pretty little plant, it was a New Zealand Tea Tree.  I didn’t buy it then and was kicking myself for not making the purchase.  I found the same plant at our local nursery but again I didn’t buy it because they wanted $9.00 for it.  I remembered that it was only $6.00 at Lowe’s.

I went back to Lowe’s yesterday and wouldn’t you know it, I couldn’t find the plant anywhere!  Since Home Depot is almost next door to Lowe’s I decided to try there.

I was excited to find the little New Zealand Tea Tree and even more excited to see that they sold the plant for a lot less.  I picked up two of them for $4.77 each.

I repotted my New Zealand Tea Trees in larger pots to place on the patio.

nzteatree1.jpg  They have these tiny little leaves and produce tiny little red, pink or white flowers.

While reading the tags, after I had done the repotting of course, I read that they grow to about 8′ – 10′ feet tall!  Yikes, I guess I’ll be repotting them in larger planters or just put them in the garden where they can reach their full height unhindered by pots.

I love the New Zealand Tea Trees though and hadn’t ever seen them before.  They’ll be a nice addition to my patio garden and later to the main garden out front.

Now I’ll even be happier once it warms up here. I’m glad my plants don’t seem to mind but it’s still rather chilly overnight.  At least it warms to around 70 during the day but I’m still feeling the chill all day long. ;)

  1. It looks like they’re fairing better than ours, the snow and frosts we’ve had this week have taken their toll on the fresh new growth :-(
