Once the storms were over and our power and phone lines were restored after being down for six days, the clean up has begun. None of the clean up is too urgent, mostly tree branches that need to be cut and removed.
However, yesterday as I was coming back down the driveway after picking up the mail I see that the same tree that dropped the large limb on the power lines also dropped yet another. I say it’s a tree limb but it’s tree sized. You know how when young trees grow they often split into two or three parts? That’s how this tree had been, it was one tree with three parts. The first part that fell on Friday was a tree to itself with the trunk being about 2 feet thick. The part that fell yesterday is also about two feet thick at it’s base.
It fell in the other direction though landing on the roof of the horse barn. In this picture you can see where the first large part broke away from the tree in the upper section, this last to fall broke away down at the base of the tree.
Luckily Trouble wasn’t hurt. She was standing in her stall as I drove past looking rather confused though.
My husband worked for hours last night before it got too dark to cut away parts that were adding weight to the roof of the barn. You can barely see the barn behind the branches of the tree.
I’m concerned that the remaining tree may topple also. We may have to call a tree removal company, this thing is too big for one person to handle. Brian is out of town and while Joel has today off, I doubt my husband will call on him again to help. He hates to be a bother although this is something he can’t do all on his own.
If the remaining tree does fall, I think it would head for the house but I “think” it’s far enough away that it wouldn’t hit the house. I could be wrong there, the tree is about 30 feet tall and who knows what damage it would do should it fall.
Yet another joy of country living. I wouldn’t live anywhere else though.

it sounds like you have to cut the tree down cause once it’s broken like that they don’t usually live too much longer….
hehehe poor trouble was in a bit of trouble eh hehehe

Two thirds of the tree has already fallen over. The only thing left is the main tree that’s grown up straight.
Yeah, I’m glad Trouble wasn’t hit by the falling tree too!

Sounds like it has to be cut down, it’s looking quite thin where the first section snapped looking at the photo, the next high winds would likely finish the damage and down it will go.

Luckily we don’t get the high winds very often. Hopefully we’ll have time to properly remove the tree that’s still standing.
