Visiting the Babies…

Filed under: Uncategorized — blulady @ 3:42 pm

Yesterday morning I was typing away when the power went *poof*!  It doesn’t happen often but it’s always a surprise to be sitting at the computer when the lights go out.  I really didn’t feel like blogging yesterday anyway so I lit a lantern and a candle because it was still dark.  When it got light enough I brought a lot of firewood inside to keep ready to burn for the woodstove.

Later I was going to go down to the barn where my daughter keeps  her new horses and works with the horses of the woman who owns the barn.  She’s been working for this woman since she was in the 8th grade.  It was perfect for her with her love of horses.  Since working there she’s learned the correct way to ride and show a horse and to train horses, she’s so good at it that she even gives lessons to others now as well as training horses that have never been ridden.

Anyway, a few months ago she adopted two young foals.  Until now I had only seen pictures of her *babies*.  Cute little horses!  I hadn’t seen them mostly because of her school schedule and I’d never know when she’d be down at the barn.

I brought my camera and got to see the foals up close.  They are definitely cute little things. :) They’ve grown a lot since she first got them and she’s gotten the horses to be so friendly.  They’ll make good riding horses.

One is a Blue Roan and Percheron mix.  He’ll be the largest.  For the life of me I can’t remember their names either!  For some reason he’d never be in picture range but I did get this one shot of him with my daugher while he was eating. He moved his head just as I took the picture so his face is a tad blurry.

The other is a Pinto and Percheron cross.  She had to shave a strip of his fur because it’s so thick that he’d sweat and in the cold you don’t want them sweating and getting colder.

Once done eating he was more curious as to what she was doing and who I was.  They are both very friendly. :)

They also keep a lot of chickens at the barn that roam freely.  Of course they weren’t willing to all pose for a picture so I only got a shot of these two.

This sign is next to the barn gate as a reminder for people that drive down the road to slow down.

It was fun to finally see the young horses and to see how the other horses at the barn are doing.  I hadn’t been to the barn in quite awhile.

Well it’s getting on in the morning here and I haven’t gone for the Sunday paper yet!  It’s definitely winter and very cold out.  Rain is expected to begin this evening and last until Wednesday.  Typical winter days here.

Have a great day!
