Day Three…The next day we decided to take in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. The original Air and Space Museum in D.C. had grown so much that they opened another that was on the route to D.C. The place was amazing I have to agree.
The museum held aircraft from many years. The one that struck me most was seeing the Enola Gay, the aircraft that dropped the bomb over Hiroshima, the event that ended World War II.

The visit to the Air and Space Museum took an entire day. In the meantime, we had finally located some easy to find restaurants in the area so we weren’t going to go without food!
The following day we went to Arlington National Cemetery. That too was breathtaking. There are thousands and thousands of tombstones of those who lost their lives in battles and during their time of service as well as veterans who survived for a time after their service ended.
The tombs of John F. Kennedy and Jackie Onassis Kennedy are in Arlington and the memorial flame still burns.

While we were walking back towards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier we witnessed a horse drawn hearse while the Marines were taking a break before burying yet another serviceman.
Horse drawn Hearse
We were able to observe the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The tomb is guarded 24 hours a day.
Stay tuned…more to come.
