Where to begin but the beginning? It will take a few days to get everything in so bear with me.We arrived at the Dulles airport in Virginia on time. Of course there was still plenty of daylight available but not really enough time to do any sightseeing that first day.
After we checked into our hotel we decided to try to find someplace to eat. That area is the most difficult and confusing area to get around in. With all the hotels in the Washington D.C. area, you’d think there would also be easy to find restaurants. We drove ourselves in circles!
Our original rental car was to be a small compact but Hertz said we could get a Ford Mustang for only a slight upgrade charge. My husband always likes to look and feel good in what he’s driving so we chose the upgrade. You know how men and their cars are.
I was still not feeling so well after the flight’s rough landing but I figured having some food in me would be a good idea. The more we drove, the more we got ourselves lost. That in turn really frustrated my husband and he’d stop and start quickly. I told him that was not helping my upset stomach and he finally gave up after locating a gas station with a mini-mart where we purchased some food and munchies to take back to our hotel room. I don’t think I was really feeling better until the following morning.
Day two we decided to take in Washington D.C. itself and see if we could locate as many monuments as possible. What a trip that was. Parking in the city is extremely difficult but we finally managed to find a two hour parking space and took off exploring.
The easiest monument to spot is the Washington Monument of course. It’s so tall, you can’t miss it.
From there we walked to the World War II Memorial and snapped photos along the way.
I had the lens focusing up close on a wall so I could take a picture of the words engraved on the wall when an elderly gentleman offered to take our picture in front of the wall. Of course the lens was still set for a close up so all you see is me with my husband’s shoulder beside me.
I got very few shots of the capitol building. I had to take them from a distance; we never did get up close to the building. This was taken through the car’s window.
We did walk for hours that day and took in everything. The best part was that the weather was perfect!
It was hovering around 70 degrees the whole time we were there.
